Youth Connecting Global Trade: CUEB Students Serve at the UN ITC Booth at the Global Digital Economy Conference 2026
From 2 to 4 July 2026, the Global Digital Economy Conference 2026 (GDEC 2026) and Digital Economy Industry Expo was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Under the theme “Building a Digital-Friendly City — Inclusive Intelligence, Borderless Connectivity,” the conference brought together government and business leaders and international organisations to explore pathways for digital trade development. The Global Youth Governance Association (GYGA), in partnership with Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB), selected two student volunteers to serve at the United Nations International Trade Centre (ITC) booth.
CUEB and GYGA jointly selected students Xie Yining and Liu Yunchuan as volunteers at the UN International Trade Centre (ITC) booth. Leveraging their bilingual professional skills, the two students delivered comprehensive volunteer services on the international stage, showcasing the competence and global perspective of China’s younger generation.
UN International Trade Centre: A Global Platform for Digital Trade
The International Trade Centre, jointly established by the United Nations and the World Trade Organization, focuses on helping small and medium-sized enterprises worldwide go digital, and on enhancing cross-border e-commerce capacity in developing countries. It was a core participant in the international exhibition zone at this year’s conference. Prior to the event, both volunteers completed ITC’s dedicated pre-service training, systematically learning about the organisation’s functions, support programmes for cross-border e-commerce, and initiatives empowering women-led trade enterprises.
Professional Division of Labour, Efficient Service
During the event, the two volunteers divided responsibilities and worked efficiently. Xie Yining handled bilingual reception, on-site presentations, and material documentation, receiving over a hundred domestic and international business representatives, officials, and scholars, while clearly explaining ITC’s various support programmes. Liu Yunchuan was responsible for standardised record-keeping of visitors, tailoring presentations to different audiences — from government officials to media representatives — with a focus on financing and digital skills training, ensuring smooth consulting and business matching at the booth.
Growth Through Practice, Eyes on the World
The frontline experience brought comprehensive growth for both students. Xie Yining translated classroom trade theory into real-world international business practice through exchanges with overseas guests, significantly improving cross-cultural communication skills. Liu Yunchuan built a concrete understanding of international economic and trade affairs, developing on-the-spot presentation skills and structured management thinking. Their proactive approach to reflection and improvement is a vivid embodiment of CUEB’s “theory plus practice” talent development model.
As a leading Beijing university for international organisation talent cultivation and an innovation practice base, CUEB has built a full-chain training system encompassing coursework, practical training, and internship placement. By integrating classroom theory with real-world international business scenarios, CUEB continuously sends students to international exhibitions and multilateral institution projects. This volunteer placement, facilitated through GYGA’s partnership network, further broadened students’ access to international practice opportunities.
This volunteer experience is a vivid example of CUEB students serving China’s strategy of expanding opening-up. With professional and dedicated service, the two students demonstrated the comprehensive capabilities of China’s young economic and financial talent to guests from around the world. Going forward, CUEB will continue to deepen its partnership with GYGA and other platforms, strengthen long-term mechanisms for cultivating international organisation talent, and guide students to build expertise while keeping their eyes on the world — contributing youthful energy to digital trade cooperation and global governance.
